History and Heritage Book Club
Paul Higbee of Spearfish will tell about Don Smith, who flew into history as one of 16 pilots who flew a B-25 bomber in what became known as he Doolittle Raid. The secret air raid on Japan demonstrated that the Japanese mainland was vulnerable to American air attack and provided a boost to American morale. Higbee follows Smith's life from childhood in his book "The First Strike: Doolittle Raider Don Smith." Higbee is familiar to many as a longtime contributor to "South Dakota Magazine." Everyone is welcome to attend the free program. Copies of the book are sold at the Heritage Stores at the Cultural Heritage Center and the Capitol.
