Taco John’s Spices up Fundraising Efforts for Flood Victims
 
Throughout the month of December, Taco John’s of Pierre hopes to spice up fundraising to help victims of this year’s Missouri River Flood. The restaurant has named the Oahe Flood Relief Fund as its charitable partner and will help raise money for those still in need.
 
From December 1 through December 24, Taco John’s will donate a portion of each Nachos Navidad sold to the Oahe Flood Relief Fund. They will also collect change and sell Christmas ornaments in the store. The festive Nachos Navidad, complete with red and green chips, has become a popular Christmas seller for the franchise.
 
“We really see a following during the holiday season when it comes to Nachos Navidad,” Brian Steilen said, “People really enjoy the holiday tradition, and we’re hoping our following will help us raise some money for people in the community affected by this disaster.”
 
Aside from donations raised from Nachos Navidad, Taco John’s raised money for the fund in September when they gave away their 8-Layer Dip and Chips in exchange for a free-will donation to the fund.
 
 “Taco John’s is a part of the Pierre community, and as such, we will do whatever we can to help other members of the community in times of need,” Brian Steilen  said, “And what better time than the holidays?”
 
The flood relief fund is handled through the Oahe Long Term Disaster Recovery Team. Pastor Don Block says the generous effort couldn’t come at a better time.
 
“Christmas is right around the corner and we still have some people who are still facing devastating losses,” Block said, “We thank Taco John’s for working with us and encouraging people to be generous so we can offer a little more hope to those in need.”
 
 More than $100,000 has been raised for flood victims through the fund. Financial assistance is currently being disbursed. The recovery team’s unmet needs committee continues to accept applications. Those wishing to apply can contact Pierre Area Referral Service.
