Join the City of Pierre in celebrating 125 years of South Dakota Statehood. The community picnic will kick off with a variety of children's activities at 4:00 p.m. in Steamboat Park near the amphitheater.
4:00 p.m. Children's Dance Party sponsored by Rawlins Municipal Library, Giant bubble making station sponsored by the SD Discovery Center, Historic Stoughton Fire Truck on display, Bounce house, Fire truck rides sponsored by the Pierre Fire Department
5:00 p.m. Picnic dinner served sponsored by the City of Pierre
5:30 p.m. Governor Arthur C. Mellette (portrayed by John Timm) speaks about the struggle for statehood sponsored by the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce through a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council
6:30 p.m. Capital City Band performance
The event will conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m. Bring your picnic chairs or a blanket.
People are welcome to bring food items or free-will cash or check donation for the Pierre/Fort Pierre Food Pantry.
