Guest speakers Molly Rozum and Casey Crew Blom will tell about sod houses in western South Dakota. Rozum's article in the Winter 2017 "South Dakota History," the quarterly journal of the South Dakota State Historical Society, features three sod houses that still exist near Bison. Rozum is an associate professor at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Blom will tell about the privately-owned Prairie Homestead north of Interior. The sod house was built in 1909 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. "South Dakota History" and books related to homesteading will be available for sale in the Heritage Store at the Cultural Heritage Center. Everyone is welcome to attend the free program.
